Mardi Gras!! Yes it is party time. The Carnival season official starts on January 6th, but the parades really kick in two weeks before Mardi Gras Day. The most elaborate parade is Endymion, which rolls the Saturday before Mardi Gras. Beads, plush toys and fun things of all kind are thrown from the floats. Some Krewes have signature throws. The women’s Krewe of Muse has a signature throw of hand decorated shoes. The Krewe of Nyx decided a shoe needed a purse to go along with them. Nyx has a signature throw of hand decorated purses. The Krewe of Choctaw has hand decorated wooden tomahawks.
Mardi Gras is fun for the whole family. Families often set up areas on the neutral ground (median to everyone out side of New Orleans), for picnics and family gathering for a day of parade watching and bead catching. Enjoy!!
